“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Very often, we find ourselves just exhausted. Sometimes we are weary from physical labor; however, we are more likely to be mentally weary—the kind of weary produced by stress and by events and circumstances that tend to literally suck the life from us.
I have a habit of letting things get to me. I’m sure most of you do, too. I think it is part of being an ordinary person. The one thing I forget, though, is that the Lord is ever present at those times of weariness. I think I’m sitting alone, dealing with things. He’s there, His Spirit is there, and the Father is there: not only to guide, but to also provide the shoulders on which the world may rest.
As I get a little older and wiser, I realize how much I can’t “do”. When I have those flickers of understanding, I tell God that I know I can’t do things and that He’ll just have to handle things for me.
When you finally realize you don’t have all the smarts and strength, you realize Who does. Trust Him to carry that burden, whether it be as light as a feather or as heavy as an elephant.
